Phoenix Rising
by Emily Zemler
(06/13/09 06:46 PM)
I think everyone at Bonnaroo would agree with me that Phoenix's set last night was one of the best so far this weekend. Members of the Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, White Rabbits, Of Montreal, Passion Pit, Chair Lift, and Grizzly Bear were all in attendance, and That Tent was packed full of dancing fans. Singer Thomas Mars arrived at Bonnaroo from the airport just minutes before the set and the frenzied energy translated onstage- in a postive way.
Thomas and Deck talked to me in their dressing room after the show:
Chairlift talks about Phoenix's set:
UPDATE: I also suggest you check out my friend Peter's interview with Phoenix (and many other awesome bands) at the Budweiser Troo Music Stage on
SPIN.com
. We all love Phoenix.

Emily Zemler
Emily Zemler is a freelance writer based in New York City. You may have seen her work in Alternative Press, Relix, Paper, YRB, and on SPIN.com, where she runs a book club for literate musicians. She likes: drummers who put their crash cymbals too high, explaining the validity of emo as musical genre, bands that don't have vocalists, and making a meal of meatless side dishes at BBQ joints in Tennessee.
