GREENING NEWS:

HUMAN RIGHTS AWARENESS TOUR
www.humanrightstour.org

The Human Rights Awareness Tour is a group of traveling musicians, artists, models, speakers, and human rights activists dedicated to educating people everywhere about the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The secondary goal of the tour is to act as a platform to promote and raise money for non-profit organizations and companies working in the field of Human Rights such as Invisible Children, STAND, Global Peace Containers, No Sweat Apparel. The tour will also raise awareness about the major human rights issues and violations occurring in the world today.

The HRAT No Sweat Fashion Show features several sweatshop free clothing companies that uphold strong worker ethics and comply with the 23rd article of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Clothing manufacturers that advertise as "Sweatshop Free" must have worker led unions, fair wages, and a safe, comfortable working environment for employees. Several companies featured, such as No Sweat Apparel, purchase products from cooperatives in developing countries such as Palestine for fair prices, while others sell apparel manufactured in the U.S. The aim of the No Sweat Fashion Show is to give festival goers the option of making a difference in the world just by being a consumer; catalogs and coupons are available at the show to facilitate this option.

Join the Bonnaroo Carbon Shredders, and make a difference not just in Planet Roo but on the entire Planet. Individually we can each make a difference but together we can exercise real power by reducing our carbon power footprints. The Shredders are a hope-generating, "if it aint fun don't do it", Shreddolutionary education group dedicated to helping concert goers save money on energy costs, reduce pollution and create a clean energy future for the communities we live in. The goal is to reduce our collective energy usage and C02 footprint by 10% by Bonnaroo 2009. If 80,000 people each reduce their carbon footprint by 5% that would reduce our collective carbon output by hundreds of millions of pounds. Stop by the booth in Planet Roo, become a Bonnaroo Carbon Shredder, learn how to track and reduce your carbon footprint and what you can do at home to lose carbon pounds! Be the Biggest Loser. The Planet and all of us win.

Greening tip brought to you by our partners at Clif Bar:

Did you know that 40 percent of all U.S. urban travel happens within 2 miles of where people live? Nearly all of that travel is by car! Think about the amount of carbon that is emitted from people firing up the car just to run out for a loaf of bread or a cup of coffee. From a company committed to protecting the places where we love to play, Clif Bar is out to ask the question: what if once a week people replaced a trip under 2 miles with a bike instead? Once a week - pretty simple, right? Get out of your car, get some fresh air, use your natural energy and save some cash on gas - we call it the 2 Mile Challenge. Bike once a week; fight climate change.

Bonnaroo Greening - Current TV

As you all know, Greening is very important to us. There are several ways we try to promote environmental consciousness to our attendees and promote green living. Whether it is converting our generators to biodiesel, using recycled paper for concessions, or offsetting our carbon emissions, Bonnaroo is actively trying to step it up each and every year. Please watch our greening segment featured on Current TV to learn more about our greening efforts.

CLEAN VIBES
www.cleanvibes.com

Clean Vibes is a company formed and dedicated to the responsible waste and recycling management of outdoor festivals and events. Clean Vibes has been a part of all of the previous Bonnaroo festivals, handling the trash and recycling management for each event. Over the past five years, Clean Vibes has diverted over 850 tons of recyclable and compostable material produced at the festival from the landfill. In 2008, Clean Vibes will continue to make every effort to increase the amount of waste that is diverted from the landfill through our recycling and food waste diversion programs. This year Clean Vibes will be introducing the Clean Vibes Trading Post.  An adaptation of the annual recycling raffle, the Trading Post will accept bags of recycling that can be redeemed for immediate rewards.  Bring your cans and bottles to the Trading Post in Planet Roo, and choose from a variety of green gifts – from earth friendly beauty products and organic clothing to autographed band merchandise.  The person who trades in the most recycling throughout the weekend will receive tickets to next years event! For more information about Clean Vibes, visit their website at www.cleanvibes.com.

What can you do to help Clean Vibe? – A message from Clean Vibes

Thanks so much to everyone who attended Bonnaroo 2007 and helped us to divert such an impressive amount of waste from the landfill - we couldn't have done it without your help!!!

This year we would like to both REDUCE the amount of waste produced at the event and RECYCLE an even higher percentage of waste, but we need everyone’s help to make this happen!

As we all gear up for another unforgettable Bonnaroo, we at Clean Vibes would like to share a few tips on how you can help keep the scene clean. Ideally, any event like this would be a “Leave No Trace” event.  This means you pack-out everything you pack-in.

With that in mind, here are a few easy ways for you to leave the smallest “Bonnaroo Footprint” possible.

Pre-Roo - Packing/Travel-Tips

* Carpool. The less stuff you stack, the more people you can pack!
* Buy water in bulk and bring reusable bottles.
* Buy food in bulk.  Avoid bringing food that spoils easily and/or is individually wrapped.
* Think reusable before you buy disposable!
* Bring bags for garbage AND recycling.
* Remember - this is a NO GLASS event!
* Avoid Styrofoam coolers.
* Smokers - bring an ashtray! Every cigarette butt you throw on the ground, we have to pick up!!!!
* Consider borrowing camping equipment before buying new (tent, cooler, tarp, grill, etc.).
* If you have to buy new, then reuse or recycle the box before you arrive on site. Applicable to all new gear.
* Avoid bringing unnecessary items that become pesky waste (sequins, silly string, confetti, balloons, packing peanuts, etc.).

Clean Vibes’ goal is not only to provide responsible waste management services at festivals, but also to educate about how to practice more environmentally friendly consumption patterns.  But we can’t do it alone! It takes all of us to spread the CLEAN VIBE!
